Noticed these clouds early this morning. They were arriving from the west via the jetstream, which travels from west to east. across the continent of Australia. The clouds looked so strange, unlike our normal clouds. Bruiser explained these were formed by the jetstream rolling over the air layer directly below it.

Unfortunately, my view was limited by the palm trees in our back yard, so the I was unable to get a panoramic view of these clouds.

I love the photos of the clouds Joy! I remember lessons in High school about cloud formations, but cannot remember any thing other than the word "nimbus" :) Now I am interested, I do not have a class or a teacher, :lol2:

Thankfully these weren't nimbus clouds, Dawn, though they did arrive later, along with some rain. Have Googled them & the cigar-shaped clouds are cirrocumulus undulatus. :cool4: The rest are cirrus clouds of some sort or another. :lol2:

A strange cloud formation from this morning. It really stood out as the faint sun lit it up.

Its a beautiful cloud Joy :sun: and quite big too   :O , looks like a big lump of Candy Floss :) Lovely one thanks for posting. I want to learn something about cloud formations they are interesting.

There is a quote or a saying that goes something like this.

" A Cloudless sky is like a flowerless garden" ~ Terry Guillemets

Some more rather nice quotes on clouds :

Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add colour to my sunset sky ~ Rabindranath Tagore

The clouds, - the only birds that never sleep ~ Victor Hugo.

Look at your feet. Your'e standing in the sky, when we look at the sky we tend to look up, but the sky actually begins at the earth ~ Diane Ackerman

Thanks Dawn. :D  The cloud formation eventually formed the letter I from the W.

Thanks also for all the lovely quotes although I must say I prefer a cloudless sky. It means there is absolutely NO chance of rain.  :lol3:

Especially when I have washing on the line, Dawn.  These line squalls can sweep in off the ocean just bursting to drop their load of water all over my laundry on the clothesline trying to dry.  :grr:

Yes, there are some very good sites with wonderful quotes from famous thinkers.  :cool3:
