The flowers are bigger than the echinopsis seminudus offshoot.

They are very clever though, Dawn, because after expending all this energy to grow such large flowers, which only last a brief time, they reabsorb 90% of them. There is only a very thin, dried up stem left after a few days. :cool4:

Two of the latest flower buds of the parent echinopsis seminudus are growing fast. This is good to see, as we may see some more of its gorgeous but brief-lived flowers. There also seems to another couple developing along with the third bud.

No sign of where the two beautiful echinopsis seminudus flowers were. The new buds are growing very quickly.

These two flower buds on the parent echinopsis seminudus were the same size one day ago. Now, one has more than doubled in length. It is definitely going to flower first. Cannot believe just how fast it has grown.

One of the flower buds on the baby echinopsis seminudus is also growing more quickly than the other. It has put a real growth spurt.

The latest flower buds on the parent echinopsis seminudus have withered away & dropped off. :sad3: It sometimes does this &, in fact, dropped two or three buds earlier this flowering season. Maybe the weather wasn't right, though the two buds on the pup plant are still there. Thought, perhaps, it was too late for it to flower but it has flowered over summer before.

Oh, well......... C'est la vie. :O

The larger bud on the echinopsis seminudus pup suddenly grew & has flowered. Quite caught us by surprise. There does appear to be some buds starting to grow on the parent plant & the pup has another bud. Do hope these will flower eventually.

Unusually, it was a sunny day for this flowering. Normally, the weather is windy & overcast when these plants flower.

The echinopsis seminudus plants are still flowering. This is the flower which opened today & is on the parent plant, Tomorrow there will be a flower open on the pup. Its flower stem has grown dramatically today.

A side view of this beautiful flower.

In the sun for a change. These flowers seem to open in overcast conditions, although it was windy today, which appear to be usual when the echinopsis seminudus flower.

This flower did attract a pollinator. Is it a native bee or is it an unusually shaped fly??

It does look more like a fly here but some native bees are also similar.

Yesterday's flower is being reabsorbed by the echinopsis seminudus parent plant. There are three more buds growing. Do hope they will become flowers & not just drop off.

The baby echinopsis seminudus plant followed suit & flowered yesterday.

Cannot believe just how big these flowers are compared to the size of the plant. The baby echinopsis seminudus is just a fraction of the size of the parent plant yet its flower is the same size the one from the larger plant.

The parent echinopsis seminudus has flowered again. It was very early in the am when these pics were taken as the flowers wilt & close up midmorning now.

The parent echinopsis seminuudus has opened another flower. These flowers do seem to prefer to open when the day is overcast & a bit windy. This might explain why the bud suddenly starts to grow very quickly after just sitting there doing nothing for quite a while. It may be weather sensitive.

This one lasted a few hours longer than the previous flowers.

The echinopsis seminudus is growing a couple of buds. It will be interesting to see if they will amount to anything as it has sacrificed several buds this flowering season.

Well, that didn't last. These buds fell off the echinopsis seminudus. It is definitely time to repot them. Will have to do this when it stops raining & I have some energy.

They do, don't they, Justy?? :D The one at the bottom turned into a tiny pup. This echinopsis seminudus has many of these & will need a large pot just to contain them all. :lol3:

It is a bit late in the season for it to flower so the buds were an aberration really.
