    default Echinopsis Seminudus ~ 2011

Our wonderful echinopsis seminudus cactus is getting ready to flower again. It has beaten me to it, as I was going to repot it & its babies before the flower buds started to grow. Never got round to it, I am afraid. :blush2:

After last year's flowers had finished, it grew some more babies where some of the flowers had been. It has also grown much bigger in circumference & height. I fear at times it will explode, as it is getting so rotund. :lol2:

Five whiskery buds have started to grow.

Our echinopsis seminudus has a split in its side. Guess it has "exploded". Fortunately, it has healed over.

The echinopsis seminudus buds are growing quickly. They will grow huge before they flower. The split in its side does not seem to have affected it in any way.

The echinopsis seminudus buds are so cute.

Have just noticed a sixth bud forming over on the left. Excellent. :cool4:

For some strange reason, three of the buds have dropped off the parent echinopsis seminudus. :sad3: BUT, there are two (or three) new buds appearing on one of its larger offshoots. It will be interesting to see what eventuates. :cool4:

There is absolutely no sign of where the dropped buds had been. :O

Here are the buds on the echinopsis seminudus offshoot. They started growing much later than the ones on the parent plant, It will be interesting to see what happens with these buds. Do hope they will flower though the offshoot is still rather small.

In two days the buds on the parent echinopsis seminudus have more than doubled in length. At the rate they are growing, I think the flowers may arrive in a couple of days. :o They really grow very quickly just before flowering.

The following day these echinopsis seminudus buds have grown substantially. Cannot believe just how quickly they grow just before they flower, especially as they are slow to grow in the early stages.

The next day (yesterday) the echinopsis seminudus flower buds on the parent plant have grown longer.

Images, from yesterday morning (or the day after the previous images), of the echinopsis seminudus buds. They were so much bigger by the afternoon.

Two of the three large echinopsis seminudus large buds opened early this morning. They certainly do not last long as they were closed by lunchtime.

They are a beautiful flower. Shame there were no bees around this time. Maybe when the the third flower opens.

Here is today's echinopsis seminudus flower. It does have a wonderful fragrance, which stood out, as there was no competition from the Brazilian Walking irises as there was yesterday. They did not flower today. :D

The withered remnants of yesterday's two flowers are visible in this pic of the echinopsis seminudus flower.

There won't be any more of these flowers until the buds on the offshoot, hopefully, grow to full size.

The buds on the echinopsis seminudus offshoot have suddenly developed very quickly. There is a third bud just beginning. This pic was taken early this morning.

This was taken six hours later. The buds certainly have grown considerably. We shall probably wake to a couple of flowers tomorrow morning.

The flowers were featured on its label, Dawn, so I did know about them but do not think I bought it for that reason. Wasn't really expecting much at all. Certainly did not know they would be as regular, in flowering, or as beautiful, OR that they would grow so many babies!!! :lol2:

The gorgeous flowers, on the little echinopsis seminudus, are open this morning. Pics to come.

Here are the images of the first flowers for this echinopsis seminudus offshoot, or pup. Have no idea why this particular one has flowered & not any of the other ones, of a similar size & age to it. Oh, well, it is wonderful that, at least, this one has started flowering.
