Tillandsia cyanea "Pink Quill" is a wonderful plant. It is an epiphyte which does need frequent watering, & some light fertilising, of its "root" system. Like most epiphytes, the plant increases in size by growing new plants & these are the ones that will grow the beautiful bright pink bract. These last for a few months & are quite striking. The most amazing, but sadly short-lived, bright violet/blue flowers come from this quill shaped bract. They have around three, or so, flowers which die after a few days, followed, usually, by another flowering a couple of weeks later. Well that is what I have noticed with my plant. Mine needs to be repotted so that it can spread out a bit with new plants. This plant does prefer to be in the shade but with bright light. Apparently, grows indoors with few problems provided its few needs are met. Just like most of us. ;)

    Its first flower.

A second quill grew early this year, which pleased us no end.

This was at the early stage of its development.

A new quill or bract is growing on the tillandsia cyanea "Pink Quill". This is its third quill since we have had it.

    What is this hiding here???

The tillandsia cyanea "Pink Quill" bract is growing nicely. Is getting pinker, if that is possible.

Today's pic. It is getting quite heavy & is dropping down, further, into the plant.

This latest quill, or bract, of the tillandsia cyanea has been flowering & flowering. More than usual. Unfortunately, the light on the front patio is afternoon light & the flowers don't seem to photograph a well as they did when on the back patio. The wonderful violet/blue vanishes.

    As this pic shows.

For this pic, I took the plant out to the back patio which gets morning sun & light. The true violet/blue colour still is not evident but at least the blue shows up more.

This quill on the tillnadsia cyanea "Pink Quill" seems to be more prolific with flowering than the other two quills have been. It seems to constantly producing new flowers. This is wonderful. This pic is from yesterday when it had three flowers.

And this morning, when one of them has withered already. They seem to last for two or three days.

Thanks Dawn. The pics don't really do justice to the true, gorgeous colours, though, unfortunately. The flowers are a bright violet.

Our tillandsia cyanea "Pink Quill" is also producing bracts. There are three of them which is fantastic as it usually only has the one. :dance2:

They are only small, as yet. :cool4:

It sure is, Dawn. :bravo: Have been hemming & hawing about repotting it too. Don't think I shall bother now for the next few months until the bracts die off. :lol2:

Absolutely stunning to think you are going to have three of these open at once, I wish I could find half the plants you have here. I really couldn't help copying you if we could get them .

:cool4: The thing is Dawn, that many of the plants I have bought, I have never seen them again at the plant shop we use. Haven't noticed the tillandsia cyanea "Pink Quill" again. See aechmea fasciata "Primera" plants every year but we won't need to buy another one of these for some time. :lol!: Haven't seen a Brazilian Walking iris plant either, but that is one we definitely won't need to buy again.

That is like treasure hunting at your local garden source

Here things tend to be boringly predictive, one has to search high and low for anything and you never seem to strike it lucky ever. I don't think I have ever walked into any garden centre here and found anything exciting well at least in the last four years! :hello:

That is a shame, Dawn, as South Africa has so many very interesting plants which people, elsewhere, find so exotic. The sellers must be playing "safe" by keeping boring stuff in stock. Think the plant retailers here can be a bit that way, too. It is just that plants, that are a wee bit different, tend to just leap into our shopping trolley. :lol2:
