We then managed to fit in a visit to St Georges Cathedral at the end of Government Avenue. My first visit to the Cathedral, and was very very impressed with the stain glass windows by the French artiste Gabriel Loire . The most recent glass is his "Christ in Triumph over Darkness and Evil" in the Great West Window in memory of Earl Mountbatten. It also boasts a beautiful Rose Window. We both remarked at the beauty of the stained glass windows at St Georges Cathedral and came to the conclusion it ranks up there with all the Cathedrals we had both seen in Europe and Britain, maybe not in size but definitely in beauty and character.

As you can see the Cathedral is not a very big Cathedral, but it is very pleasant to be inside. I never felt an eerie coldness that sometimes come from all the stone that these Cathedrals are sometimes made of.

This is a link that gives all the information on the stained glass windows, which is where I received all my info from. It also has other sections to it e.g. the history if anyone is interested.

These stained glass windows are absolutely magnificent, Dawn. Their symbolism is also so profound. The designs, & their implementation, are exquisite. All in all, they are fantastic. Cape Town must be proud, & very fortunate, to have such masterpieces in the cathedral. Thank you for showing us these beautiful windows & cathedral, & for the link. :thankyou:

Think the reason the cathedral did not have the coldness that some similar buildings have, could be that the stone it is made from looks so warm. Some stone looks cold but the type of stone the cathedral is constructed from has a warm appearance, at least, in my opinion.
