Thanks Dawn. I'm lucky to get any pics at all as I cannot really see what I am doing. The viewfinder is a wee bit small. :lol2:

We had to return to Brisbane this week for a couple of days of medical appointments. The area we were in is just south of the Brisbane CBD & is one of the older innercity suburbs.

This would have been a mixed business corner store which sold groceries, etc to the local community before the days of big shopping malls & supermarkets. The family would have lived above the shop. It is now painted black.

There are still many of the older homes in this area. These are earlier style of typical "Queenslanders". Later ones have really big covered verandahs wrapping around three quarters of the house. They are also elevated. The reason for this is to enable cooling summer breezes to circulate under the house as a type of temperature control.

A small part of the main building of Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, Queensland, where we have been going for our medical appointments. I have, also, been an inpatient here on a few occasions.

This hospital is simply known as PA as its full name is a wee bit of a mouthful. :lol!: It was named for Queen Elizabeth II's cousin, Princess Alexandra of Kent. Apparently she was delighted when asked if the hospital could be named for her.

This is a very large & extremely busy teaching hospital & is a centre for medical research. The University of Queensland's medical school has its campus here as does the UQ School of Pharmacy. It was here that the cervical cancer (HPV) vaccine was developed in its research laboratories, in parallel with other research centres.

This image shows the brand new extension to the main building, for its emergancy department, which has doubled its ED capacity. When we were here two weeks ago, there were hoardings surrounding a large area. These have now been removed, as well as the site sheds, showing the new building with its new gardens & landscaping.

Last week we went to Brisbane, Qld, again, for an appointment Bruiser had at the hospital. When we left Evans Head, NSW, there had been a smoky haze for a couple of days. Had hoped it might have disappeared, by the time we arrived in Brisbane, Qld, but, if anything, it was worse.

Driving through the smaky haze into Brisbane, Queensland. The driver of this Guide Dog van seemed to need one themselves.

A view of part of the front garden at PA Hospital. Brisbane. The poinciana tree in the front is not flowering as much as the other tree. Many of the poincianas had to be removed when the new Emergency Department was built over to the left although some were saved as can be seen in the above pic.

That hill looks very benign using the zoom but it is a real killer to climb & has a much steeper gradient than appears in this image using the zoom. It is also of a greater distance. There is a minibus driven by volunteers to take the less-able up this notorious hill. This is the hospital where Bruce & I have our specialists' appointments.

This is a very steep climb up to the hospital. A real stress test. In fact this hill is notorious. The pink shadow on the left is my reflection. the tube shaped walkway on the right is from the parking station which is where I am taking these pics. It doesn't look far up this hill but it is bad enough there is a free shuttle bus service.

This was taken from the car park of Bruce's favourite computer parts wholesaler, in Brisbane, on our latest trip. It is in a light industrial area with many attractive buildings. Not your usual austere basic ones.

Trees growing on top of the garages of a building in Brisbane. This reasonably common in Brisbane especially on highrises.
