default Common Crow (or Oleander) Butterfly

A couple of days ago I saw a black & white butterfly fluttering about on the back patio. It was busily flitting about checking out all our plants. Over & over & over again. :lol!: It would flit off then, very quickly, it would return. Flutter, flutter, fluttering around. It would only land for milliseconds. Finally, it stayed out for a few seconds, though it was still opening & closing its wings. When I looked closely at it, there was a slight brownish tinge to it but in the pics it shows up as really brown. It wasn't that brown the naked eye.

Found out it is a common crow (or oleander) butterfly, euploea core corinna. It is apparently quite common a bit further north from here, though I have never noticed it before. Not that means anything. :lol2:

It is 7cms across (nearly 3ins) & I am not sure if this one is a male or a female. The descriptions on some of the sites I came across aren't too detailed. Think it may be a female but, then again...........

One of the plants it likes to lay its eggs on, is the mandevilla. It would be good if it was a female & did lay some eggs on my mandevillas as they definitely have plenty of leaves!! :bravo:

What an ordinary name for such a pretty butterfly, though. :mad2:

    I love butterflies.

I found some beautiful stickers at a dollar store recently and the children decorated their church room with them.

Not the real thing but pretty pictures.

They are a wonderful looking butterfly, Glad. The children's church room must look very pretty decorated with the butterflies.

We actually had quite a few butterflies, including this one, around our place this last summer & autumn. Still seeing some striking small yellow ones on the back patio this winter. Was hoping that this one would have laid some eggs on our mandevillas as they, apparently, have a beautiful chrysalis & the mandevillas have plenty of leaves for the caterpillars.

Not to worry, Dawn. The original topic was posted a few months ago. :D We ended up having quite a few of these butterflies hanging about our place all summer &, also, during autumn. They would fly around the building. Round & round they would flutter by in a lumbering manner, stopping occasionally to investigate the flowers. Was hoping they would lay some eggs on the mandevillas but this didn't happen. :O

Thanks Dawn. :D The funny thing was, it looked black when it was, very obligingly, sitting on the mandevilla, so I was surprised when I saw the pic & it was brown. This is how they look in pic on the web, too. They are a pretty butterfly. Hope we see more of them this summer.
