That is good to hear, Granny. We had a stinking hot day, yesterday, with a maximum of 36°C, or just over 95°F, but today was much cooler with the maximum temp back down to 26°C or about 79°F

Oh, my goodness!!!! Our temp has reached 42°C (107.6°F) this afternoon, with humidity of 13%!!!! There is a hot NNW wind blowing down from the tropics & we have no cooling sea breezes. :hot!:

Just north of us, at Byron Bay, they are only on 23°C (73.4°F) as they have received the benefits of a lovely nor'easterly sea breeze. This has not travelled south as yet.

Hope so too, Dawn. It is now 8.45pm &, finally & thankfully, the temp seems to be cooling down. Still warmish, though, at 23.6°C. Winds from the south are forecast for tomorrow, supposedly bringing with them lower temps but we were forecast to only have 29°C today. :lol3:

Funnily enough, the other towns near us, both coastal & inland, were much cooler than us & we were even mentioned in the regional weather report as having the highest temp in the whole region. Think it may have been one of the highest in NSW. It does seem as though our small village was subjected to such strong NNW winds that they prevented the cooling nor'easterlies from reaching us. unlike the other coastal towns. :O :hot!:

We finally have had some good soaking rain which started early evening & went on through the most of the night. Still some showers today. Not good for Bruiser's live bird webcam but good for all the trees, lawns & other plants. People's lawns are looking very brown except for ours. It doesn't get watered but looks as though it does, as it remained green when all others were looking crispy.

Thats lucky to have a lawn that stays green while all else is turning crisp . It is lovely to wake up to a rainwashed earth. All the dust and pollen gone and everything that's green has revived itself. :good: :cool3:

Trouble is, Dawn, we do not need any more, but it is still showering intermittently. Just enough of a threat to put me off hanging the washing on the line. :grr: Today I shall use the drier for some of it.

Last night we had a line of very nasty thunderstorms come across us from the west. This system extended for several hundreds of kilometres, north/south. Luckily for us, despite the strong winds, lightning strikes & torrential rain, we only suffered a power outage during the evening, after dinner, which was restored by just before 1am. So it lasted just over five hours. None of our plants on the front patio, which bore the brunt of the winds, were damaged, thank goodness, although the kentia palm's fronds did a great deal of swaying in the gale. :lol3: We were very lucky as we did not have the hail which fell in other places.

Towns nearby to us, both just up the coast, or inland, were battered, with some homes losing roofs plus other damage. At least one house has collapsed & others are structurally damaged. No doubt there are trees down in many places. Bruiser's brother who lives about 15kms inland from us lost a wall from a shed adjacent to his home. His power is still out this morning & some are not having power restored for at least 48hrs due to major power lines being down.

This morning the sounds of thunder are, again, rolling across the skies & rain is falling. Fortunately, there isn't any strong winds at the moment. We do hope they will stay away.

An update on the previous post. As there was another power outage at lunch time, we decided to drive to Ballina. The road from our village, to the Pacific Highway at Broadwater, travels through the Broadwater National Park & for much of its distance of 10kms, there were downed trees & branches ripped off trees by the wind. The road was covered in many places by leaves &, what seemed to be, tiny wood slivers. Almost sawdust, really. It was sad to see such destruction. Our town got off very lightly, indeed.

As we drove along the Pacific Highway, through Broadwater, the traffic slowed to a crawl. Thought it may have been a tree down, or something, on that part of the highway as there were trees missing from the side of the highway. When we finally reached the start of the 100kph zone we could see the crawling traffic stretched out in front of us as far as the eye could see. The traffic heading in the other direction had stopped, so Bruiser took advantage of that, turned around & headed back home. So, we didn't have Maccas for lunch & when we got back home, with some fresh rolls from the bakery, the power was back on.

PS. We found out this supercell storm was caused by a dreaded east coast low. These are a reasonably common event for us but this one was really bad. The damage at Woodburn was heartbreaking for the residents but, luckily, no one was killed or injured, which was a bit of a miracle when we remember the force of the damaging winds. The surrounding lightning show was non-stop & as we had no power watching it from the safety of our lounge room was our evenings "entertainment". It was awesome nature at its most dramatic.

Really bad floods in the West of England at the moment with many homes flooded and thousands of acres under water.

We are OK here as we live on a hillside and all the rainwater runs down the road past our gate.

Sorry I haven't been contributing much recently but have been busy trying to get things in order around the house and garden as i am going in to Hospital to have my artificial hip
replaced as the first one has worn out after 19 years.
Hope to be back in gear once i am back home.

The floods have been awful in England & I did wonder if you had been effected. So pleased to hear that you, your home & your garden are ok, BigBilly. :D The floods have caused so much damage from which it will take some time to get back to normal for those places worst hit.

So, you have worn out your first hip replacement, eh, BB??? It is no wonder with all the hard work you do. My mother had her first hip replacement, a year ago, when she was 97 therefore, at 19 years before it needs servicing, it will seem as though she will get a good run with it. All the very best for your new hip operation & recuperation. At least this will take place over winter while the garden is snoozing & we hope you will be up & running well before spring arrives for you.
