As a Christmas treat we bought this new phalaenopsis orchid. It is a lovely soft, pale green which doesn't seem to show in the close up. :(

It leaves are bigger & are a different shape to our other phalaenopsis orchid. It is from a different grower, also, so the growing care instructions are rather different. They say "it will PROBABLY grow a new stem & flower for you"!!!! I jolly well hope so. :cranky:

This lovely orchid from a slightly different angle. Do hope it will grow more flowers.

She is BEAUTIFUL Joy! Yes her flowers have a lovely green hue to them. This looks like an adult Orchid as opposed to a repotted baby plant.

Do they not perhaps mean, that you will get another flower spike this season? Sometimes they throw another flower spike, especially if they are strong and like their envionment ?

The care tag for the other phalaenopsis is more optimistic & mentions it growing another flower spike. Do hope you are right as the quote, above, was what they said. When I saw that I thought, uh oh, they must not have high hopes that the plant will survive. It had better as it wasn't cheap. The rest of the care tag was rather ho-hum about the care of the orchid. Certainly not as instructive as the first one. :x Think I shall follow their instructions. ;)

Couldn't find any orchid potting mix but there were solid blocks of coir-peat mix that you soak in water & it swells into a large amount of potting stuff suitable for orchids. It is cheap which is just as well as I shall be wasting a great deal unless I can cut it in half or a third.

Do hope you are right, Dawn, about this orchid, in that it is a more mature plant as that would be really excellent. :bravo:

One of the buds of our new phalaenopsis orchid opened today. :bravo: It is more green than the other two are. Do hope the stem will keep on growing & produce more buds. There is still one more to open, as yet.

It has a nice sturdy flower stalk too Joy! as do the leaves. It is most fascinating the green in the petals :)

It is isn't it, Dawn?? The leaf, that has dropped down, is actually upside down or twisted around. The orchid was in one of those awful plastic/cellophane sleeves which are. supposedly, meant to make it look more attractive or something. So all the leaves were standing up. Don't know how long it was in that sleeve. The other leaves are starting to spread out now, too, so they are less upright. The pot was also wrapped in fancy paper & stuck in a "glamorous" silvery pot which has no drainage holes. :mad2: No wonder these "special occasion" presentation plants have problems surviving, especially if the recipient isn't all that knowledgeable about plants. The soil was a bit dry, too. The plant carer at the store would not have been able to water them, the way they were wrapped up. :sheesh: Hope mine survives. :apgn:

Lovely photos Joy! Yes my cattleya orchid came with its leaves tied up, when I took it out of the plastic, they eventually found their way back to, I suppose where they were in the first place, unfortunately it cracked some of them when they tied them up

That is awful, Dawn. Fortunately, these weren't tied but were probably grown in a confined area which would have stopped the leaves from spreading out. THEN the orchid was put into that  sleeve!!! :mad2: These aren't inexpensive plants, by any means, so they should be treated a bit better, don't you think???

Now that is not something you should have to worry about, Dawn. There is enough to fret about with orchids without that.
