I know the anticipation of waiting for that little shoot to show itself! It adds to the excitement when it does finally arrive :luck:

This phalaenopsis orchid has grown another leaf or two but has now started to grow this shoot. It is nothing like a leaf shoot. Do so hope it could be something a wee bit exciting, though, I guess, it could well be a strange root shoot or a root shoot growing in a strange place. :giggle:

Exciting to get movement on an Orchid isn't it Joy! :) Yes it could be a root but it is growing very erect isn't it?, lets hope it is a flower stalk. Roots and stalks always look so similar at the outset, annoying, but at least you have some indication it is going forward. Some Orchids just remain the same for ages with no indication that they are moving forward. keep us posted :) Sometimes I have noticed that the flower stalk is a little thinner than a root stalk!

Sure do hope it will do something, Dawn. :) The shoot on the other phalaenopsis orchid has ceased to do anything.

Well, I am pretty certain that the weird new stem-like growth on this phalaenopsis orchid is a root. This is because of the way it is growing. First up it was growing vertically, then it started growing horizontally, now it is starting to head north again. It is developing a bit of a zigzag look to it. :lol3:

Maybe it will fool me & start to straighten up a bit more. Oh, well, do hope it will keep on growing & not stop, like the one on the other phaleanopsis orchid. That way we will, at least, find out what it is, one way or another.

Well, it is definitely an air root which does not seem to be doing much at all. This phalaenopsis orchid grows new leaves & discards the old ones, same as the other phalaenopsis. It has been placed outside with our back patio plants & is coping with the winter chills quite well, so far. Hope it will do something.

Hello Joy :) Here they advise one not to put Phal's outside as they do not like the wind. Not sure about NSW. They say as far as I can remember, that constant temps are what encourage them to flower?. I know you have been doing all the other things one should. I shall hold thumbs it does do the trick. Fingers crossed and holding thumbs. :)

Hello there, Dawn. :hi: Good to see you. :D Our two phalaenopsis orchids were looking as if they were slowly dying as, while they were in good indirect light it really did not seem to be enough for them, so now they are getting some morning sun as well as rain when that happens. They are fairly sheltered from any wind although we aren't having much of it at the moment, thank goodness. So far, they seem to be coping all right with being outside. :lol3: Many thanks for those tips.

Actually, I needed the space they were taking up inside for our "Kakadu Crystal" cymbidium orchid which has now fully flowered.   :apgch:
