A cocos palm, in our front yard, had just opened one of its large flowers. The rainbow lorikeets swooped on it, along with a large number of bees. Rainbow lorikeets, despite being parrots, are nectar feeders & like all nectar feeders are very noisy & territorial when they feed. They will even chase other members of their flock away. The one creature they can't chase away, though, are the bees. Neither seemed bothered by the other as there was plenty to go round. The rainbow lorikeets are messy eaters & many of the tiny flowers ended up on the ground around the palm. The bees utilised them, as well.

The morning this movie was taken, one of the cocos palms in the front yard flowered, to the delight of the local Rainbow Lorikeets. Have never seen so many at one time visiting these flowers. There was a queue, along one of the fronds, of impatient birds awaiting their turn.

This time there weren't many bees. Think the hives may have been moved.

Thanks, Glad. These amazing birds are the most prolific, of all the various bird species, where we live. It is like living in an aviary. At the moment there is a huge flock of them chattering away in the ghost gum tree you can see in the videos.

Here is an image of a pair of scaly-breasted lorikeets I cropped from one of my distance shots of rainbow & scaly-breasted lorikeets in the ghost gum. It was taken as the sun was low in the sky & they all have an orange tinge to them. The scaly-breasted are a brilliant green with bright yellow feathers scattered over their breast. They are gorgeous.
