The rainbow lorikeets' backs are also a similar green to that of the umbrella tree's leaves, so they blend in.

It is great, isn't it Dawn?? We see these birds, every day, for much of the year. They disappear for a while during their nesting period but other than that, it is like living in an aviary. They have been feeding off the flowers of the two umbrella trees, in our front yard, for many weeks now & there is still flowers left for them.

The tree where these rainbow lorikeets were, when I took these shots, had five of these huge flowers which have provided well for these wonderful birds.

Last Monday, when I took these images of rainbow lorikeets, in the ghost gum tree over the back, was a beautiful day. It was getting close to sunset & some of the birds were enjoying the lovely weather by perching on its bare branches. Most of the birds were in amongst the canopy & only showed as flashes of colour.

These birds never keep still. :D

This image shows just how agile these birds are when flying. The one in the middle is coming into land on the branch & has one wing outstretched & the other wrapped across its breast. The one at the top has just landed & is still bent around the branch tip.
