When we were working on Sea Angel we spent time both in 1986 & 87 at Hamilton Island. While there whenever we had guests we cruised around some of the islands in the Whitsunday Group. Here are some scanned images from this time. Do so wish I had taken more photos, but back then, we didn't have digital cameras. ;)

A sunset. Taken from Stonehaven Anchorage at Hook Island. The first was as the sun was dropping toward the horizon.

A float plane taking off from the waters of Whitsunday Island (I think). Also think this was taken from near Whitehaven Beach, that famous stretch of pure white sand.

These guys seem to have found a novel way of getting around the Whitsundays without a boat. They were also rather drunk. No worries about RBTs on the water, at that time. This was taken in the late afternoon at Nara Inlet, Hook Island. Know it was late afternoon as we were at anchor at the time. It is recommended that you be at anchor by 4pm due to the difficulties in seeing coral outcrops, which can hole your boat if you run into them, as they cannot be seen just under the surface because of the glare of the late afternoon sun, on the water.

Could not believe our eyes when this motored past. It is a Russian-built amphibious vehicle. A true offroader.

Heading to another bay in the Inlet. You can see how the glare from the sun would make it impossible to see what is under the surface.

Bruiser with a fabulous golden trevally which he caught off Whitehaven Beach, Whitsunday Island. It was very delicious, too.

A sea eagle, or erne, swooping in to grab a dead fish I had just thrown over the side. It floated & seagulls were squabbling over it but the more powerful sea eagle won the spoils. It did the same when I threw a sausage roll over the side. Again, it beat the seagulls to the food, as they were so busy fighting over who would have it they didn't notice the sea eagle flying in. This was also, taken at Stonehaven Anchorage, Hook Island.

Pentecost Island from the air. These photos were taken by one of the guests flying in to Hamilton Island to stay on Sea Angel. Have included them to show what some of the islands in the Whitsunday Island Group look like from the air.

Scawfell & Lindeman (closest in the pic) Islands. Can't remember the name of the small island to the right. They are just south of Hamilton Island.

Leaving Hamilton Island for, probably Whitehaven Beach. This is the direction we would be taking if we were heading there. We are cruising through Fitzalan Pass with tiny Fitzalan Island on the left & Dent Island on the right.

Someone standing on the reef at Hardy's Reef. We were anchored in the lagoon. There is a big difference between water levels of the water inside Hardy's Reef & the water in the channel between the reefs at the change of tide. Can look like a waterfall, running over the reef, when the tide is dropping. This does appear to be low tide.

Here are three guys walking along the reef at Hardy's. Looks as though they are barefooted the way they are hopping. Coral is very sharp.

Sunsets on Hardy's Reef. The two horizontal lines with smooth water in between are the reefs of Hardy's Reef with Hook Reef across the channel.

Proving it sometimes gets cloudy in paradise. Heading for Hook Passage which runs between Hook Island on the left & Whitsunday Island on the right.
