Thank you for showing us how you get your garden started, BigBilly. There is much to do in making a great veggie garden such as you have. Does 'chitting' mean the potatoes growing 'eyes'? Do the shallots grow new bulbs around the ones you have planted in the seed trays? You can tell I've never grown a veggie garden.  :lol3: The leeks still look good & the broccoli seems to be thriving.

The temperature shown in the sugar snap peas image is less than our current nighttime minimum temps. Still having frosts eh? Brr.

Many thanks again for posting these great pics of your garden preparations, BB.

Yes to both your questions Joy.  Chitting means getting the eyes to form shoots before planting out.
And the shallots form a cluster of new large ones from the segments of the original shallot. I like to get them started before putting out in the garden.

Thanks BigBilly. Good idea to get as much as you can started for planting when it warms up. Bet you are itching to get them out into the garden.  :D

I tip the compost from the heap on the garden,  they do the spreading.

  Wow!  I wouldn't have thought to let chickens spread the compost.  They are doing a great job, and look like they are enjoying every minute.

Yum, BigBilly, fresh asparagus on the way. Had some a while ago & never realised just how superior it was to the canned asparagus.

BBilly I like the idea of the egg cartons for the potatoes.  I will have to try that.  I have always laid them flat in a shallow box.

Oh and this year I planted a few purple potatoes.  The grocery store had the small ones marked down in price and I brought them home and cooked them.  There were a few that had sprouts so I planted them.  Mighty good eating I might add.  Will try to get more next year or at least will save a few back if they grow well.

Great tips  Billy , I was excited to see the asparagus spear :good: .  Are they finnicky things to grow ? I am always envious of all the green fingered folk on here. Of course there is also all the hard work that goes with it, not to forget that ! .

Are you into Summer yet where you are ? , people around here have been saying we have had a seven month winter. It is freezing outside at present, yesterday,  it started out brilliantly sunny and clouded over with a very cool wind blowing.

Good news is I may be able to get a very small glass g/house to be able to grow some tomato at some stage. I hope it happens :)

    good wishes to you all
