What a great idea with the onions, Glad. You do have a very smart son. There are many such companion plantings but had never heard of using onion plants in such a way. Of course, we don't have squirrels & rabbits aren't a problem where we are but they are a major problem elsewhere in Australia so such a tip is handy to know.

Lovely fresh strawberries will be something for you to look farward to.  :D

Volunteer tomatoes in soil at strawberry patch

Strawberries putting on runners and the onions serve as a deterannt for squirrels and rabbits....no berries yet...probably next year.

Close up of brussel sprouts making sprouts

Over all view of part of the garden.....some onions were planted in blocks

    A few blackberries

    Corn in jugs and potatoes

    Blueberries

Grapes  (we planted only one plant)

    close up of grapes

one dill plant....tomatoes are at the stakes

    radishes going to seed

    close up of tomato plant

A few beets and late cucumbers at fence

    Burpless cucumber

Squash, beans and a few okra plants

Cucumber is climbing and to left beets, and peppers, way at end are the bush beans then to far left will be the squash

Pole beans in center of cages with lettuce around the bottom,  this will keep soil damp for beans when lettuce is beyond eating,  also to right of picture will be the tomato plants along the tall stakes

    Sweet potatoes

Cauliflower to right and to left is more okra coming up and a few asparagus beans along fence

Swiss chard, beets, onions and broccoli

    A few wax beans

    Garlic beginning to dry

    one cabbage almost ready

Lettuce almost done, brussel sprouts to back

What an outstanding variety of vegetables & fruits you are growing, Glad. It all looks so A-1.

That was a great idea growing corn in the concrete blocks protected from critters by the milk containers. Your grape vine is fruiting well too. Everything looks so good & all is growing so well.

It is hard to realise, looking at these wonderful photos that only a few short years ago your fantastic veggie garden was just grass. Congratulations on gaining all these benefits from all your hard work. You should be proud of what you have achieved in such a short time. Thank you for sharing these pics with us as well as your great gardening ideas.  :D

You are welcome Joy and thank you for your wonderful comments.

I must admit that my son did most of the hard work getting the garden built up with good soil, and helping me out by planting a lot for me especially this year.

I look back at some of the older pictures of years gone by and I am shocked how far the garden has come.

Hi Glad wow in all honesty I am in so much awe of your wonderfully productive garden, so much work and love has gone into it   I love it ! . You have brought up such wonderful children who help you so much .. Well done you all round !

Sorry to hear about your hiccup with the camera, and it is good to tear up easy when things go wrong wish I could do it that easy, it is a balm to the soul and lets out the emotions so they don't build up and cause you more stress I find. Wish I could come and have a cuppa with you and see you garden in person and of course have a lovely chat at the same time. lotsa love x

p.s. I must really look in on yours and Billy's threads more often, I miss growing the few things I used to so it is great to see photos of someone else's efforts. It does not give me notification there is a new post,  all the time, I guess it is because I was away for so long and these things have expiration dates ? x

Thanks for the garden comments and the birthday wishes. Just another day and another year older and very thankful I can still garden.

The garden is producing well but showing signs of a different kind of stress than normal for this time of year.  Usually it is hot and dry but this year it is still hot but extra wet which means there are signs of mold.  Hoping for some sunny weather.

Has anyone ever planted asparagus beans?  They are really delicious!

It is autumn now and work is underway to put the 2015 Garden to rest.

Most of the items are taken out now and leaves and other mulch have been placed in the sections to break down over the next 5-6 months before planting time once again.

I am already looking forward to the 2016 Garden.

A wonderful productive garden, such as yours Glad is really a year round project , isn't it? What with the harvesting & cleaning up for its well deserved resting time during the winter, then the fun of planning for the next growing season.

No wonder you are already looking forward to the fresh beginnings of your 2016 garden.  :D

As soon as we have a warmer and sunny day will get pictures of the empty garden with mulched leaves.

Son places wheelbarrow loads on the sections twice a week until the end of November when all the leaves have fallen.

That will be great, Glad. It's hard work but it will be so gratifying for you to see your wonderful veggie garden all snug for its winter rest & recuperation so it will be all ready for its next fantastic growing season.
