After our fuel stop at Pheasants Nest we have caught up with the same motorcyclist trio which we have been with for more than 250kms from at least the Central Coast.

Many of the eucalypts were covered in this reddish/brown new leaf growth. This s the normal colouring which made previous bright green leaf growth so surprising.

Escarpment. The eucalypt on the right is in flower as well as growing new leaves.

I'd say that truck is an over sized one . I'd hate to be meeting it or be behind it.

Yes, Mable, we have plenty of really big trucks in Australia such as B-Doubles, car-carriers & long low-loaders like this one carrying a large grader. No doubt it was being taken to roadworks or a construction site somewhere. There are trucks over in Western Australia that have three large trailers. They are called 'road trains'.  :lol3:

We were driving right behind it but Bruce would have soon overtaken it. In that pic the truck was in the overtaking lane so it must have just overtaken another vehicle. We would have passed it when it moved back into the other lane. We are used to driving with big trucks on the highways. Generally they aren't a problem.

Loving all the scenery Joy ! this pic below is great Joy wrote: :good:  Loving all the scenery pics Joy and this specific pic is great. Yes, amazing Joy how those trees just grow straight out of the rock, absolutely mind boggling. Now just try and grow that through a rock in your garden :) it would just probably not grow . Thanks for the pics Joy  :photos:

Thanks Dawn.  Australian bush is very adaptable & in most hilly regions there isn't much topsoil so the eucalypts, which tend to be shallow-rooted, will grow from rock crevices or on top of them. There are a few pics in this thread which are good examples of this ability. These are pics 92 to 97 & 128 & 129.

You are right about not being able to do this in your own garden  :lol3: but I still do have the fern on the rock.  :cool4:

The Southern Highlands are part of the northern area of the Capital Country Region along with the Southern Tablelands to the south & South West Slopes. We shall be crossing the Great Dividing Range at some stage. This will be my first time on the western side of the range.

The three highways Cumberland, Hume & Federal form Remembrance Drive which travels from Canberra to Sydney. Many of the rest areas are named for Victoria Cross winners. This is the highest miliatary award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded in the British Commonwealth. Jack Mackey was 22 years old when he was killed in WWII.  Link  Jack Mackey

These would have to be Australian snow gums - eucalyptus pauciflora - the hardiest of all of the Australian eucalypts. They are growing straight up through rock. The blurring is due to us travelling at 110kph. Taken from Passenger side window.
