The hard rock of the cuttings. Think this is granite.

 Thank you so much Joy!!  What a wonderful way to start my day.  Great pictures and beautiful country.
What is the color on the rocks in this picture?

The wildfire pictures were sad.  I always wonder how many birds and animals didn't make it.
It was great to see that there is still plenty of trees so close to Sydney.  A large city with room for wildlife.
The curves and mountains made me feel right at home.  One of our roads here.
I liked the picture of the granite wall.  It made me wonder if you ever have rock slides along the highway.  It happens around here sometimes.

I am grateful it doesn't happen to often.  I would hate driving around with a hardhat on.
Thanks again for all the pictures!!  I can't tell you how much I enjoyed them!!  Pack your bags,  I need more!

Thanks, Granny.  :D  Sydney is a very large city (pop about 4 million) but has managed to retain many, many trees. Many suburbs are leafy both within private home gardens & street trees. There are street trees in the CBD & other centres. It is also surrounded with national parks plus has some within its boundaries such as Lane Cove National Park.

Here is an example of street trees right in the CBD. These are most likely non-native deciduous plane trees still bare. Must look a sight in spring & summer.

These Canary Island palm trees are very old & are right in the heart of Sydney's CBD.

The red/orange colouring on rocks of that cutting is probably lichen. Many times it is iron ore but this time it most likely isn't.  :lol3: The images from before the Sydney Welcome sign are all in what is known as the Illawarra region. Its main city is Wollongong.

As Australia is very old & very worn down by erosion over the millennia we don't have the same type of loose topsoil of other countries. Thankfully, landslides, or rockslips, are a relative rarity unless there has been heavy rain in an area with much soil &/or when homes have been built in areas where hills have been cut into to accommodate buildings. Some of the deep cuttings on highways have wire netting over what could be loose rock to avoid the risk of falling rocks. The rest are very solid rock.

That pic of your hairpin bends is scary but we did have such bends in New Zealand & there may be some like that here up in the mountain regions. The landslide video was amazing, especially how the trees stayed upright!!  :lol2:

Many thanks for your pics & video.
