Dawn wrote:Hi J,  I do believe in ignoring Orchids largely they don't like to be smothered ! I rather miss mine I believe they are doing well. I have decided not to invest in any here,  as they don't like the central heating atmosphere in winter and also when we move again !!! not looking forward to that one, will have to carry them with  !  :bye:

Don't blame you, Dawn. Plants are rather like pets or children really, especially those which need a relatively high level of care such as the phalaenopsis orchids. This is why I shall stick with cymbidiums if I buy any more. Our night minimums are a little high & our latitude quite bit too far north for them but they seems to handle it okay. Believe you me, they seem to have done much better without me fussing & worrying about them They haven't even been fertilised for months!!!!    :blush2:   :lol2:

Thanks Granny.   :D   They weren't all fully open in that image so I may change the header banner to one with them all open.  :cool4:

I try to make header banners topical with images of what is flowering for me or some such. If they are photogenic that is.

:hi: I found three orchids on the endangered list in Oz.  I was hoping that you had them growing on your patio. Granny

Three new species listed as critically endangered
Corunastylis insignis (Wyong midge orchid 1), Corunastylis sp. Charmhaven (NSW 896673) (Wyong midge orchid 2) and Thelymitra adorata (Wyong sun orchid) listed as critically endangered under the EPBC Act effective 19 July 2014.

Oh no, Granny, I'm not an orchid grower.    My cymbidium orchids survive in spite of my neglect. I killed my phalaenopsis orchids.  :blush2:   The orchids in the link are from a region known as the Central Coast where Bruce grew up. It is about 750kms south of where we live so the winter climate is quite a bit warmer here. Such rare orchids would not be available for the ordinary potted plant grower, I would imagine.

These are images of the cymbidium orchid flowers I took, nearly a month ago, when they were still in their prime.

The Valley Olympic "Prolific" cymbidium orchid flowers still look good more than a month since they first opened.
