Six weeks after our last trip, heading south down the Pacific Highway, we were meant to be attending a wedding to be held south of Sydney. This would have been a 1200km drive split into two or three legs. The wedding was postponed until mid year but we decided to do part of the trip anyway. This would now be a short, but proper, holiday as previously all our trips have been for another purpose, appointments, etc.

The badly needed Woolgoolga bypass has opened thankfully. It is only 10kms of the actual 24km Sapphire - Woolgoolga Bypass so there is still another 14kms to complete. A blueberry farm to the right with some plantings netted. Part of a banana plantation up on the hill to the right. These are the two main crops in this region.

Earthworks from the construction of this section of the bypass. It will all be remediated when everything is finished such as local roadworks, etc.

A road surfacing machine. This is a concrete layer. As it was the summer holiday period work was at a halt. The work recommenced the next week.

The Big Banana at Coffs Harbour. A favourite tourist attraction for some reason. We have never entered its portals.

We were stuck in an interminable traffic hold up from Nambucca Heads to Macksville which is a very small town. As it is on the Pacific Highway it has three sets of traffic lights to allow local traffic to pass across the highway. These lights did not serve the holiday traffic well & the 12kms between the two villages which normally only takes 12mins took us 1/2 an hour. Plenty of time to take these two pics of the beautiful flowers/seedheads of this grass on the road verge. That is a mangrove tree behind it as the Nambucca River is next to the highway.

South of Macksville & Trees that were felled to make room for the upgrading of this part of the Pacific Highway have been left to dry & will be mulched on site for use here or elsewhere. This area will then be reforested.

A concrete batching plant built to make the concrete used for roadmaking on this bypass. They also have rock crushing plants to crush rocks, found on such road building sites & also delivered from elsewhere, into the various grades used for road base.

Travelling well along the Kempsey bypass. It makes a huge difference not having to travel through the town of Kempsey.
