We are heading off to the Taree region which is about 400kms south of where we live. That section of the Pacific Highway has two major upgrades happening. the first is the Devil's Pulpit upgrade south of Woodburn & north of Iluka/Yamba on the Pacific Highway heading south to Sydney. Fortunately the much-needed Kempsey bypass has already been opened.

Speed restrictions & no overtaking makes going rather slow at times.

This will become a dual carriageway. For those who use mph 80kph is 50mph.

Tree plantings over to the left. They are the saplings protected with plastic sleeves. No doubt to replace some of the trees that were cut down for the upgrade. All trees cut down for such projects are chipped on site & used for mulch. Nothing is wasted now.

This is still part of the new Devil's Pulpit upgrade but it is only half of the dual carriageway & is still being used for both north & south bound traffic hence the slow speed limits. We are down to 60kph & still behind the same white car. It will be great when the other side is finished & it will become 110kph!!

On the left a wildlife-proof fence to stop native animals such as koalas from getting on to the highway & becoming road kill. Seem to work as we do not see any on the sides of the road. Just the occasional fox which is good for our native wildlife. These fences stretch for hundreds & hundreds of kilometres on both sides of the Pacific Highway.

Finally dual carriageway but not divided as the other will be. Sugar cane growing country. Clarence Valley flood plain river flat near Yamba. This is the southernmost region for growing sugarcane. No more white car. :lol3:

The Harwood lifting bridge over the Clarence River near Yamba. Bruiser has trawled for school prawns along that river & travelled under this bridge.

One of the many safety averaging cameras dotted along the Pacific Highway. They record how long it takes for a truck to travel a given distance to average their speed & find out if they are having their required rest periods plus if they were speeding.
