Love these cuttings through the sandstone on the F3.

These signs tell the drivers how many minutes to the next two exits. Must have snapped this one midcycle as it is illegible. They are all along the F3 south of the Central Coast.

Heading down to the Hawkesbury Freeway Bridge. Glimpses of the Hawkesbury River which is the Central Coast's southern boundary.

Crossing the Hawkesbury River. It is one of the east coast's major rivers & denotes the northern end of the Sydney metropolitan region. The old arched bridge to the right is the railway bridge for the main east coast railway line. This only a small part of the railway bridge as it is nearly 800 metres long.

This colour makes the car stand out. Ourimbah is Bruiser's old stamping grounds.

Nearing our turnoff for this part of the trip.

This pic shows part of the extensive wildlife fencing that we have seen all along the Pacific Highway in areas of National Parks or where there are plenty of eucalypts of the type that koalas use for feed. This fence is high up on the cutting on the right. There is also wire mesh hanging down & as this is not really a rockfall-prone area, I have surmised that it may be for koalas to grab onto if they slip down the rockface.

Great Pics Joy :)Thanks for sharing. I also love the sandstone cliff faces, they look very dramatic. I know this will sound humourous to some but I love pics of other places that have the sign posts on with the names of other places yet to arrive to. They fascinate me, sort of gives a air of mystery to the picture taken. Also Oz has some fascinating names, I 'sometimes feel' when looking at your place names that I am back in Wales :D I sound them in my head wondering how one would pronounce them :)They do a lot for your wildlife in Oz which is wonderful. On our recent trip to the wild flowers we saw some signs that said "spare us a thought" with a picture of a tortoise. :)
:photos: :thanks: Your trip sounded fun, but phew! a long way. I have done that distance before so know where you were in a manner of speaking :faint: Well done Bruiser!

Thanks, Dawn. There are still many more pics to come. :lol3:

The Aboriginal place names, which are many, are pronounced phonetically. So in a way, how they are spelled is how they are pronounced, generally. Makes it easier, I feel. :cool4: The Sydney region sandstone is quite famous as it is such a lovely warm colour. It is now getting a bit scarce & I shudder to think just how much was blown to smithereens when the F3 was first being built. :o

As I said, this is a to-be-continued project, as we head back north. :lol2: The Sydney Harbour Bridge & some views of Sydney have their own topic. :D

Heading north from the Central Coast on our way to Taree in the Mid North Coast. The highway is divided by a wide strip of native tree & shrub plantings.

Oh dear, more roadworks. This slow driving stretched for many kilometres & we could not see what was being done. Perhaps it was just being set up for work to be done. Maybe.........
