A new aechmea fasciata "Primera" bract has appeared. This does seem to happen in December & they generally last until Sept/Oct. There are two new bracts, so far, this year.

Both of these are on the front patio. Haven't had any bracts from the back patio aechmea fasciata "Primera" plants for a couple of years.

Here is the second bract. They both have a bit of growing to do before the flowers appear.

Yours will, Pixie, especially in your wonderful climate. :cool3:

Aechmea fasciata "Primera" plants usually only grow a bract once, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the larger one has flowered before but I have moved them around so I may well be wrong. :giggle:

That is really good rain, Pixie. We would be awash if we had that &, yes, we have had falls like that. In June of this year, we had 193.3mm, nearly 8ins, in one morning. Fortunately, we had to drive to Brisbane that day, so missed it, but everything was very soggy when we returned.

Trouble is my plants miss such rains as they are under shelter. :rain2:

one natural oxygenated rain is better than 6 wetting with the hose.

:agreed: Pixie but I have to use a watering can. Our tap water comes from rainwater run off in a rainforest catchment area. So far, it is only chlorinated & the aechmeas have done well with it. It is going to be fluoridated some time this year so might use rainwater, for them, when that happens.

Both of our patios, where most of our plants live, are beneath the balconies of the upstairs unit, so very little rain penetrates on to the plants, unfortunately, except for the ones at the edge. :aargh:

These two aechmea fasciata "Primera" bracts are totally different sizes which I have never seen before with our aechmeas. The one on the left is, now, nearly twice the size of the one on the right. Most unusual.

This is the larger aechmea fasciata "Primera" bract.

    The smaller bract.

Have found a couple of images taken earlier this year of the two aechmea fasciata bracts when they were still opening up.

Thanks, Dawn. They are a very photogenic plant, aren't they??

What I was doing when I found these pics, & realised that they hadn't been uploaded to my web albums or posted here, was going through my pics & deleting my daily weather shots as I no longer needed to keep them stored in Picasa3. They were all in albums & here as well. Cleared 11GBs of storage space on my computer!!! :lol2:

Here they are today. The aechmea fasciata "Primera" bracts become a bright, deep pink before they start to die off. They still look stunning.

Indeed, they are still stunning, funny how it happens they go darker when they are dying off. They are a very striking flower Joy! I love their foliage colours too. :)

Found this new aechmea fasciata "Primera" bract quite by accident. It was hiding under the big strappy leaves of a neighbouring plant. The other two bracts from last year have died right off. This one will, hopefully, grow a bit more.
