The container which has two flowers has yet to have any open. Probably tomorrow.

Well, here are yesterday's images of the billbergia nutans "Queen's Tears". The two-in-one-pot flower stems haven't opened their flowers yet. The petals on the other flowers have curled up prettily. :)

They are amazing flowers aren't they?? The actual flowers are not that big being about 5cms, or less, long. The petals are less curled today.

The present lot of billbergia nutans "Queen's Tears" flowers have now all closed up & look almost like buds again. Maybe the plant is going to reabsorb them like some of my other flowers.

There is a new flower spike growing too, though I can't see any more than that. :(

The first image is of a flower bunch which was coated in a sticky nectar. Had to loosen the flowers as they were stuck to one another.

Thought I should find out where the billbergia nutans "Queen's Tears" are native to. Do like to know this about my plants so as to be able to give them the best growing positions on our patios. These are yet another South American epiphyte, & are native to Brazil, Argentina & Uruguay. We now have a few plants which are native to Brazil &/or parts of South America. They seem to suit our climate. :excited:

One lone site had them as "East Indian" (which I would presume to be Indonesia) natives. Quite a distance from South America. :lol2: Just goes to show how easy it is for misinformation to get out in cyberland.

They are so very unusual !! A first for me ever seeing one are these on here, they are fasinating to say the least ! They look like someone came along and made them out of different colours and parts of other plants... if this makes sense. I am no good at explaining what I see. .

It is hard to imagine that this flower comes out like this already designed like that !!

They definitely don't look real, Dawn & when I first saw a pic of them, I decided I should like to have some. Bruiser looked through eBay & found a plant seller with some for sale, at a reasonable price. The rest, as they say, is history. :apgch:

Do fully understand what you are saying, about them looking as if they were made from bits & pieces. ;) The funny thing is, despite their coloration, the flowers aren't actually bright. The stem stands out but the actual flowers don't & they would, easily, blend in with their surrounds. Not like other members of the bromeliaceae family. The pollen, though, is almost fluorescent yellow. So much so, it nearly glows. :D Guess that is all the birds need to see, isn't it?? The nectar that dripped out of one of the flower stems was almost toffee-like.

The fifth billbergia nutans "Queen's Tears" flower has opened, as al;l the others have faded & turned brown. The remnants of one of them can be seen in the background of this image.

It was quite a surprise, Dawn. :O Noticed it & the aechmea fasciata "Primera" new bract, at the same time, as they are close to one another. Never noticed that the tillandsia cyanea "Pink Quill" was growing three bracts though. Bruiser saw those.
